No Class or office hours, Tuesday, 15 November

Due to illness there will be no class, Tuesday, 15 November; instead, you will be working on your own practicing pace of writing up to speed.  This new essay will be due on Thursday, 17 November.

Write a five paragraph essay one one of the following topics.  Allow 1.5-2 hours for pre-writing and drafting and 1-1.5 hours for revision and proofreading.  Have your essay ready to print out and turn in AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS on Thursday:

1. "Human rights" is a term frequently used but seldom defined. What rights should belong to every human being? Discuss.
2. Should American students be required to learn a second language? Why or why not?
3. Robert Frost said, "We come to college to get over our littlemindedness." Discuss in
relation to your own experiences.
4. If you were awarded an expense-paid trip to any one place in the world, where would you go? Why?
5. Do you think that you have the qualifications of a good parent? Discuss.
6. If you were guaranteed a steadily improving standard of living (in terms of buying power, free time, quality of goods and services, etc.), would you be willing to give up your right to vote? Explain.

Note: you can use the topics you decide not to write on as a source of topics, and you can practice your pre-writing skills, that is, coming up with a thesis statement and three topic sentences for each topic as quickly as possible.

See everyone Thursday,

Steve

Welcome to the ENG 01 Course Webpage.

The webpage is where I will post course announcements, assignments, and resources.   There is a "Contact Me" tab, where you can contact me without leaving the webpage.  The "Contact Me" tab can also provide you with office hours and contact information.

As assignments for the class are updated, I'll post them under the "Assignments F11" tab.  The assignments tab lists current, upcoming, and past assignments, so you will always know what you need to do or what you missed.  Scroll down to find older assignments.

Once again, welcome to the class.

At any point, write or call with any questions.  My office is right around the corner form our class (in 231 Massy), so it will be easy to stop by with questions.
